The best route for your residues.
Which utilization route suits your residue technically and pays off for your business?
Utilization Check
The pyropower Utilization Check is a technology-neutral assessment that identifies the technically and economically best utilization route for your residue. We evaluate the material, compare the routes and name the technology and partners for implementation.
Sound familiar?
When a Utilization Check pays off
Disposal costs money
You pay for collection and disposal, and prices keep rising.
- What does your residue cost per ton today, all in?
- Is there a route where it earns revenue instead of costing money?
Sold below value
Your residue goes to pellet mills or panel manufacturers at fluctuating prices.
- Who sets the price today?
- Would processing it be worth more?
Energy and residue on the same site
You buy in electricity and heat while the residue sits in your yard.
- How much heat and electricity do you need over the year?
- Is your volume large enough for your own plant?
Starting point
Every residue has value. What matters is the route.
Shavings, wood chips, bark, green waste, label waste, husks or pomace accumulate every day. Most of it goes to a disposal company or is sold at a price the buyer sets. Often the same company buys in electricity and heat at the same time.
Which route pays off for you depends on volume, material properties, the regulatory framework and your energy demand. That is exactly what we assess.
Technology-neutral
The utilization routes we compare
Material recovery
The residue stays a raw material, for your own production or for buyers in other industries.
- Processing, for example drying, screening or pelletizing
- Sale to companies that process the material further
Energy recovery
The residue becomes heat, electricity or fuel, on your own site or at a buyer’s.
- Combustion, gasification, pyrolysis and other thermal processes
- Your own plant or supply to heating and power plants
Biological treatment
Wet, readily degradable residues become biogas, compost or fertilizer.
- Anaerobic digestion and composting
- Your own plant or supply to biogas and composting facilities
Utilization Check
What the Utilization Check covers
Volume and occurrence
How much residue accumulates, how evenly over the year, and how is it stored and transported today? This determines which plant size and logistics are feasible.
Material properties
Moisture content, calorific value, ash content, particle size, impurities and contaminants. We evaluate existing analyses and data sheets and show which technology can process your residue.
Regulatory framework
Waste or by-product, waste wood category, permitting route for each option and, for biochar, eligibility under the EBC standard. We classify your residue and show the consequences for each route; this does not replace legal advice.
Energy demand on site
Electricity and heat demand, temperature level and base load. This is decisive for every route in which you use the energy yourself.
Economic viability
Current costs, revenues per route, investment range and payback as a range, plus suitable funding programs. Every figure is labeled: measured, calculated, assumed or open.
Optional: lab analysis, practical test and site visit
Where existing data is not sufficient, we analyze a sample in the lab or test your residue in a pilot plant. During a site visit, we inspect where the residue accumulates and is stored and document everything with photos.
Report, recommendation and personal presentation
You receive a report with the technical and economic assessment of the utilization routes and our recommendation, including suitable technology and potential suppliers or buyers. We present the results to you personally, by video conference or on site.
Typical cases
Residues that cost money today
Paper industry: label waste with adhesive layer
Liner paper and matrix waste from label production carry adhesive and release coatings. They are hardly suitable for standard paper recycling, and disposal costs around 200 euros per ton.
- Which routes does the adhesive layer allow?
- Can the calorific value be used on your own site?
Furniture and wood industry: coated panel offcuts
Offcuts of coated particleboard and MDF are not untreated wood. That narrows the utilization routes and makes disposal expensive.
- Which waste wood category applies to your offcuts?
- Which facility may accept them, and at what cost?
Food industry: wet husks and pomace
Pomace, husks or coffee grounds arise wet and often seasonally. Storage is difficult and collection is expensive.
- Dry first or digest directly?
- Are there buyers who will pay for it?
Utilization Check
How the Utilization Check works
1. Initial call
20 minutes on the phone. We clarify residue, volume and goal and whether the Utilization Check is the right fit.
2. Data and documents
You fill in a short questionnaire and send us any existing analyses or data sheets. We only need a sample for an optional lab analysis.
3. Assessment
Technical and economic evaluation of the routes. On request with lab analysis, practical test and site visit.
4. Presentation
We present the report and recommendation personally, by video conference or on site. Usually three to five weeks after receiving your documents.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about residue utilization
01 Which residues do you assess?
Mainly biogenic residues: wood, wood residues and industrial wood residues, bark, green waste, landscape maintenance material, straw, husks, pits and pomace. Also composites such as label waste with adhesive layers or coated panel offcuts. For waste wood or digestate, we clarify in the initial call whether an assessment makes sense.
02 Do you need a sample?
Only if you want a lab analysis or a practical test. Existing analyses and data sheets are often sufficient. We will tell you the quantity and packaging of a sample in the initial call.
03 From what volume does your own plant pay off?
That depends on the route: a wood chip boiler pays off at different volumes than a wood chip CHP plant that also generates electricity. The check states the volume from which each route becomes viable.
04 Is my residue waste?
That depends on its origin, treatment and use. Classification as waste or by-product determines the permits and costs of each route. We classify your residue and show the consequences; this does not replace legal advice.
05 Can my residue be turned into biochar?
That depends on the residue, because the EBC standard only permits certain types of biomass. Whether and in what quality can be clarified on request with a lab analysis and a practical test.
06 Are you tied to a particular technology?
We assess every route by the same standards and recommend the one that suits your residue and your site. That can also mean a better deal with a buyer.
07 What does the Utilization Check cost?
That depends on the residue and the scope. After the initial call, you receive a fixed-price offer; lab analysis, practical test and site visit are optional.
08 How long does the check take?
Three to five weeks from receipt of your documents, longer with a lab analysis or practical test. We agree on the schedule in the initial call.
09 What happens to your documents and samples?
We use your documents and any samples only for the check and treat them confidentially. On request, we sign a non-disclosure agreement beforehand.
010 What do I have after the check?
A report with the technical and economic assessment of the utilization routes and our recommendation, discussed with you personally by video conference or on site.
011 Do you also support implementation?
Yes, on request: with funding applications, permitting and the selection of suppliers and buyers. You commission this separately from the check.
