pyropower is a German GreenTech corporate group, founded in 2012. We realize decentralized energy systems that generate electricity, usable process heat, and CO₂-storing biochar from regional biomass. Our plants permanently store carbon in biochar and enable companies and municipalities to achieve immediately implementable, economically viable decarbonization.

Sebastian Kießling is Co-Founder and Co-CEO of pyropower GmbH, bringing many years of expertise in the development of innovative energy systems. Since 2012, he has been dedicated to the efficient use of residual materials for energy and heat generation, driving forward decentralized combined heat and power technologies with externally fired micro gas turbines.

From open-cast mining to energy technology
For decades, Lusatia was shaped by lignite mining. Today, new industries are emerging here.
In the region, we develop and build energy systems that generate power and heat from residues and bind carbon in biochar.

We are not from Silicon Valley. We are from Lusatia.
Our location in Cottbus offers us the spatial conditions to work as a team under one roof: office space for project and customer work, as well as a spacious hangar as a production facility.

Milestones
From technology development to the top of GreenTech.
Start of technology development
With ClinX Energy Systems GmbH (formerly B+K), the development of externally fired micro gas turbine technology began. The goal was to efficiently utilize industrial heat sources and unused residual materials for power generation and to develop a robust solution for decentralized energy supply.
Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award for externally fired turbine
The externally fired turbine technology was awarded the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award for the first time. This confirmed that the technology can make a relevant contribution to energy efficiency, industrial power generation, and innovative heat utilization.
Building industrial references
In this phase, a total of 11 projects were implemented or set up with ClinX Energy Systems. The plants provided important practical experience, operational data, and technical know-how for the later expansion of the technology platform.

The production of ClinX Energy Systems is awarded the Energy Efficiency Award.
Founding of pyropower GmbH
pyropower was founded by Lucie Töpfer and Sebastian Kießling to make energy technologies based on biogenic residues industrially usable and to produce biochar on an industrial scale. From the very beginning, the focus was on combining energy supply, residue utilization, and CO₂ reduction.
Technical further development into a pyrolysis CHP plant
pyropower further developed the combination of pyrolysis, decentralized power generation, industrial heat utilization, and biochar production. The focus was on a practical plant that combines energy supply, residue utilization, and CO₂ sequestration in one industrial process.
Acquisition and integration of ClinX Energy Systems
pyropower took over ClinX Energy Systems, thereby integrating years of industrial experience, know-how, and IP regarding the externally fired micro gas turbine. Through the corporate succession, established turbine technology and pyropower’s pyrolysis innovation were brought together.
Awards for founding, innovation, and impact
pyropower was awarded, among others, the KfW Award Gründen, the Brandenburg Founders Award, and the Brandenburg Female Founders Award. The awards underline the economic, technological, and societal relevance of the company.
Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award for pyropower
pyropower was again recognized in the context of the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award. This made the further development of the technology into an integrated system of pyrolysis, electricity, heat, and biochar visible.
Expansion of the industrial reference base
Through the integrated ClinX platform, pyropower has industrial references in Germany and Switzerland. This operational and project experience strengthens the trust of industrial customers in the scalability of the technology.
Strategic partnership solidified
With the entry of pyropower GmbH into Swiss ClinX AG, we are expanding our cooperation with our long-standing Swiss partner into a strategic participation. Together, we are opening up the DACH market and placing the series production of Pyro-ClinX on a broader industrial base.

01 Who is pyropower?
pyropower GmbH is a GreenTech company from Cottbus in the Lusatia region of Germany. It develops and builds decentralized energy systems: the Pyro-ClinX pyrolysis plant and ClinX Heat for power from waste heat. The managing directors are Lucie Töpfer and Sebastian Kießling.
02 When was pyropower founded?
pyropower GmbH was founded in 2022. The externally fired micro gas turbine technology has been developed within the group since 2012. In 2024, pyropower acquired and integrated ClinX Energy Systems GmbH.
03 What is special about the technology?
pyropower combines pyrolysis with an externally fired micro gas turbine (EFGT). The turbine is driven by clean air via a heat exchanger and never comes into contact with the pyrolysis gas. Electricity, heat, biochar and carbon removal credits are produced in a single process.
04 Where are pyropower systems in operation?
Systems from the pyropower group are in operation in Germany, Switzerland and other countries. You can find current examples on the projects page.
05 Which awards has pyropower received?
Among others, the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award 2025, the KfW Award Gründen 2024 as state winner for Brandenburg, the Brandenburg Founders’ Award and, in 2026, the VORSPRUNG business award of the East German Economic Forum.
