Pyro-ClinX recognized as a technological breakthrough – carbon-sequering energy generation sets a new standard for industry and municipalities

Last Friday, pyropower GmbH from Cottbus (Lausitz) was awarded the prestigious Berlin-Brandenburg Innovation Prize 2025. The accolade was presented to the Pyro-ClinX energy system, which combines electricity generation, heat production, and CO₂ storage into a single process for the very first time, setting a new benchmark for the decentralized energy transition.

The jury, chaired by Prof. Oliver Günther, President of the University of Potsdam, praised Pyro-ClinX as an energy system innovation that seamlessly integrates electricity, heat, and carbon sequestration into an end-to-end process. Particular emphasis was placed on its contribution to a carbon-negative energy supply—making it one of the few technologies worldwide that connects economically viable Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) with usable energy production to deliver a measurable contribution to global climate goals.

Pyro-ClinX is already market-ready and opens up immediate, tangible applications for industrial plants, commercial enterprises, and municipalities.

A single Pyro-ClinX system supplies approximately 160 households with electricity and heat, while the biochar produced simultaneously offsets the carbon footprint of that exact same number of households. This clearly demonstrates how energy supply and climate protection can be merged into a single process—economically, decentrally, and with a measurably climate-positive impact.

The system is modularly scalable and creates distinct economic advantages through the produced biochar and CO₂ certificates—a benefit that becomes increasingly valuable as carbon prices continue to rise. Consequently, Pyro-ClinX ranks among the few CCS/CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removal) solutions globally that successfully unite energy production and climate protection within a highly viable business model.

The fact that this award goes to Cottbus underscores the growing importance of Lausitz as a key location for structural and economic transformation. It strengthens a regional ecosystem that is actively breeding innovative energy and climate protection technologies for the future.
